The strong smell of in scents with the smell of smoke and burning candles mixed in, the smell surrounds Pathos as he sits in the small cloth tent, while the fortune teller looked into the crystal ball. Misty, her long blond messy hair and a long flowing dress swished around her as she stood up and told Pathos “One day you shall travel far and wide. Many creatures will help you along you journey.”
“Really? I don’t believe anything you have told me yet. I am not in need of a sword. Not a singing sword on top of that,” stated Pathos.
“Look into the crystal ball. It will tell you all. Look closely and listen closely,” chanted Misty with mystery in her voice.
Pathos looked deep into the ball and felt a tug on his body and the next thing Misty saw was Pathos inside her crystal ball. She watched him stand there and look around; she hoped this was all a dream.
I looked around this new world as the fog all vanished from my sight and I saw many lilies in a nearby field. I headed over to them and picked one of the yellow lilies. “OWWW!!! What was that for?” something yelled around me.
I spinning around, I was looking for source of the noise as I continued through the field for a little more. As I looked around I heard many more profane things so I decide that it was time to leave the field and I ran into a floating woman and yelled “ Ahhh!!”
“ Hello! My name is Wanda and I am your fairy godmother. I will give you three wishes and all the spells I cast ended at 9 pm. I understand that the time is early but that is the way it works,” said the plump red haired fairy. The whole time it seemed as if she was trying to read my mind.
I managed to stammer out “o..k..a..y..,” I thought about what she said and decided that new armor would be important on my journey. “For my first wish I want armor to assist me on my journey.”
“Okay!” replied Wanda as she cat the spell, then my armor appeared before me. It was some of the rustiest armor I have ever seen.
“What is this? This isn’t new armor or even quality armor to protect me…,” I said aloud and then I mumbled “ That’s my luck, the worst fairy godmother ever. She probably could not even give me water unless I wished for the glass to go with it. First I got tricked into seeing that stupid fortune teller, Misty, and then I got sucked into the crystal ball. And now this lady, no she is a fairy godmother.”
“Well you didn’t wish for new armor, you just wished for armor,” replied Wanda with a slight smile on her face. In her eyes, I swear I saw some evil peek through at me.
“Oh well. I guess I can make this armor work. Can you point me toward the hidden cave? I am looking for the singing sword. My journey needs to start soon,” I replied to her.
“That way!” pointed Wanda in a sing-song voice.
“No more fairy godmothers for me. This one didn’t work out to well.” I mumble to myself.
I ran across the field of profane talking lilies and to the dirt path. Walking into the dark and creepy forest, it started out alright. The light dimmed more and more as I got farther in. There was a glint of silver-ish gray and it vanished into some trees down the path. I ran after the thing and I stopped in the path and read a sign that said “Danger! Near Death Situations Coming Up Ahead!” “To late to turn back now” I said quietly to myself. After hours it seems like I came across a unicorn. An elegant black unicorn with silver-ish gray tail and mane. I went to catch him but he ran away deep into the trees and I could not see him any more. I decided that maybe I wasn’t suppose to catch him so I continued down the path and I reached a calm pond in a clearing. The sunlight reflected off the untouched pond surface and you could clearly see the fish swimming at the bottom. A gentle ripple hit the surface as a beautiful white swan landed on the surface. She swam up to me and said ”What are you doing around my pond?”
“I just came upon it as traveled out of the forest. I am looking for a singing sword, it is the hidden cave. Can you help me by pointing me in the right direction?” I asked her.
“What you seek is under the deepest blue sky, in the place where fire and ice meet. In the place you can touch the sky but never leave the earth,” said the beautiful white swan as she started to fly away.
“What does that mean? I do not understand! Please, tell me what it means?” I shouted after the white swan as I dropped to my knees. I had a discussion with myself about the clue and how I could never decipher anything like that. The path through the forest sounded like that best thing to do next so I walked around the pond and back to the path. The path took me deeper and deeper into the forest and I came to an intersection in the path.
I stood there for awhile trying to figure out where to go, when a kangaroo came out of the brush that it blended into and told me “Go to the right, it is where all your dreams will be answered”
I stood there and stared at it as another kangaroo dressed like the forest cam out and told me “Go to the left, it is where all your wishes will be answered.”
I really ended up confused and I just stood there as the kangaroos hopped around me and then they switched directions with each other. The first one then said that I should go left and the second one told me to go right. They both told me to go back next and then they circled around me chanting “Which way?.. Which way?... Which way?... Which way?... Which way?... Which way?... Which way?... Which way?..”
I closed my eyes and I still saw them around me. I yelled “Stop!” As I opened my eyes the kangaroos were vanishing slowly until only there eyes were staring back at me and then the eye made a loud popping noise as they vanished completely. I decided to go to the right because the path to the left was really dark and I was afraid of what could be down there and going back wasn’t going to help me. I headed down the path to the right and ran into a stump and sat down trying to refresh my energy. I was listening to the birds singing and I was looking at the tree tops, when I saw all the birds flying away. I looked around and saw them, the giant brown eyes staring down on me. The owner of the eyes came out of the trees to really take a look at me. I started backing up when I realized that she did not want to hurt me. She sat on the stump and cried so I asked her “What’s your name?”
“My name is Princess Marsh. I am the troll princess and no one loves me because I have large feet.”
“Well Princess..,”
“Marsh, Princess Marsh.”
“Princess Marsh, I do not think they do not love you they are jealous of your large feet. Can you tell me how I can get to the hidden cave? I do not have much time left to find it.” I replied to her.
“The way to the cave is just down this path. You are close to the end of your journey. Thank you for all the nice complements,” Princess Marsh replied.
“Your welcome, and thank you,” I said as I ran down the path, hoping that the cave was down here. After a few miles of running I came out of the forest and into a field. In the middle of the field was a castle, a floating castle. This reminded me of the riddle clue I got earlier. Where you can touch the sky but never leave the earth, why not a floating castle? As I ran up to the castle and I ran into an elephant. The elephant decided that he would help me get to the gate of the castle, so he wrapped this truck around my waist and lifted me up to the gate. I walked right in because there was no gate keeper and I decided to try and find a dungeon because that is where a singing sword could be hidden but the fire and ice part of the riddle did not make sense in that idea but an idea is an idea. As I was sneaking around the castle I saw a frog. I tried to catch the frog but when I grabbed him he yelled “ HEY!?!? What are you doing don’t you know I am royalty. I am the frog prince, Price Leonard.”
I rolled my eyes and started to walk away as he said “Don’t you roll your eyes at me. I am not lying to you. I am really a prince. Look, here comes my gallant prince, Prince Samuel.”
“Your prince…I am confused now. How is he you prince? Are like his pet or something like that?” I asked him.
“Yes I am his pet. His pet frog, his parents could not find him any other frogs that were willing to deal with him,” replied the frog prince, “I need a place to stay, and the outside world was not meant for me.”
I nodded my head in a way that means that I understand and I watched the young price walk up to me. He was about 4 foot 5 inches and has long brown hair that swished in the breeze and he looked about 10. I was thinking to myself, “He is way too over dramatic and I haven’t even talked to him yet.”
“Who are you? And what are you doing in my castle?” said the boy price Samuel with attitude dripping from his voice.
“ I am Pathos and I am looking for the singing sword that is in the hidden cave. I was traveling across this field as an elephant picked me up and put me on here. I hope you understand that I don’t mean anything by being here. I will leave as soon as possible.”
“Why do you need this sword? You don’t look like a knight or anybody that would craft swords. If you get the sword can you bring it to me to see what it looks like? I have heard so much about it and it is a great legend to hear about.”
“I might be able to do that. The thing is that I don’t know where this hidden cave is and the only hint I got is this ‘What you seek is under the deepest blue sky, in the place where fire and ice meet. In the place you can touch the sky but never leave the earth.’ I don’t know what it means but I am trying to figure it out. It you just point me to the exit I will be on my way,” I told Price Samuel.
“Okay, but first you are to come with me. I have something I want to do and I need your help with it. It won’t take that long to do, I swear.”
“I guess I can do that. It is not like I am using any of my fairy godmothers magic. Lead me on.”
“Come with me. Are you coming Prince Leonard? I need your help too,” Price Samuel asked.
We went around the building and up and down stair cases. Price Samuel skipped and sang children’s songs to himself as we went along. The frog price Leonard was stuck in Samuel’s pocket and I laughed as I watched him struggle to get out of his pocket with no success. We stopped in a great hall with a small throne sitting on the one end. I asked Price Samuel “What are we doing in here? What do you need to do?”
“Just come up here with me,” Prince Samuel said, “You won’t regret it. Here you go Price Leonard.” He said as he put him down. Samuel skipped to the front of the room as Prince Leonard followed close behind him. I was walking behind them both looking at the paintings and portraits of past king and queens. This castle has a great history and it seems as if Prince Samuel is the only one left in the royal family.
When I approached the throne Prince Samuel told me “Kneel. This is a great honor on you and your family.” I did as I was told and watched him pull out a sword from behind the throne.
“I was told not to play with this sword because it is used only to knight people and I have decided that you would make a great knight in my kingdom. Well my kingdom when I come of age and some one comes along to make me king but that is another story all together. I dub you Knight Pathos. Please rise,” said Prince Samuel.
I was shocked that this little kid actually dubbed me a knight. A knight, me a knight. It is unbelievable. Price Samuel then led me to the hidden entrance at the bottom of the castle and allowed me to leave.
“Remember to bring me the sword so I can see it after you find it. You can use this entrance.”
“I will come back as fast as I can. I still have to find away to the hidden cave.”
I continued on down the field and found a cave on the side of a mountain. The riddle came back to me. “What you seek is under the deepest blue sky, in the place where fire and ice meet. In the place you can touch the sky but never leave the earth” rang through my mind and I thought that this mountain could be the place where you can touch the sky but never leave the earth. The sky was turning a deep, deep blue as the sun is setting and I am praying this is the place. I wondered why Price Samuel didn’t know this was here but he probably doesn’t leave the castle all that often.
I ran down the path in the cave and I decided to try and save my energy and not run all the way. I made it really far into the cave and didn’t run into anything or anybody. My luck did change when I ran into a baby giant.
“Who are you and why are you in my cave!?” yelled the baby giant.
“ I am a knight and my name is Pathos. What is your name?”
“ My name is Tiny. My parents left me here because I am too small to be a giant.”
“Okay Tiny. I am not here to harm you or invade your space. I am just trying to find the singing sword. Do you know how to get there?” I asked Tiny.
“It is just down the path a bit farther. Please continue down the path. I am not in your way any more,” replied Tiny.
I continued down the path and what seemed like forever of running I came up to a red dragon. The scales were fire red and his under belly was a paler shade of red. His ruby red eye came down to my level and he asked “What are you doing in my cave, this is mine and you shouldn’t be here.”
“I came to retrieve the singing sword.”
“ROWR!!! That sword is mine to protect and no one may get to it. If you defeat me you may go and get the sword.”
“How do I fight you with out a sword. I was never told that there was going to be a dragon here.”
“I can get you a sword from the last knight I killed. First things first you may want to know that my name is Ember and I am on of the most powerful dragons in the land.”
“My name is Pathos and Price Samuel, who lives in the floating castle in the field nearby, knighted me and helped me go on this mission.”
“Here is a sword so now it is time to battle.”
I caught the sword and Ember looked and me. We circled around each other and a couple times and then we started our duel. I attacked him with the sword being careful not to get hit by his huge claws or by the fire that is shot out of his mouth. I head a soft chuckle come from the depths of his belly, as I dodged his large claws and dove under his belly. I went to stab his stomach but he jumped up and than landed on top of me pinning me down with on of his claws and digging his claws in. My sides started to bleed and the pain was too much to handle so I started to let the dragon kill me. He let me go because I probably not struggling enough for him. When he let me go I slide underneath his stomach and stabbed him in the gut causing him to yell out in pain. I then moved around to the side and climbed on his back waited for the dragon to bleed out. He continued to try and attack me but from where I as sitting I discovered that he could not get to me. When he died I jump off his back and ran to the alcove close by. The sword was not there but there was a note left that said “Sorry but the sword was taken when the dragon was sleeping. I was probably the smartest of us all to get the sword this way but if you did kill him, the more power to you. I hope this sword does not mean too much to you because you are never going to find me.”
After I read this note I turn around and told the dead dragon that I was sorry for killing him for no reason. I traveled back to the field with out encountering other people or creatures and I then decided that I wanted to go back to the pond. I ran through the field and underneath the floating castle and through the forest I avoided the kangaroos and I sat in front of the pond and looked at myself.
My dirty blond hair was covered in dirt and blood. My face had scratches up and down it and there was dirt covering part of my face. There were streaks of tears running down my face because I realized I killed that dragon for no reason. My blue eyes were glazed over and I could see a change in myself as I looked in the water. I used the water to clear my face of all dirt and blood so I looked some what cleaner. I then just prayed that I could go home and that I could forget what happened.
Misty watched the whole act in her crystal ball and she wished this never happened. She decided that she would never tell some one their fortune again.
Pathos felt a tug on his body and he saw the world fog over and start to spin. He landed in the small in scent and candle smelling tent. Misty yelled and dropped to her knees at my side and told me she was so sorry and that has never happened before. I said “That was the adventure of my life. Don’t worry about it. I am just fine, the only thing I need to do I go home and lay down.”
